I'm having a problem with my boyfriend's laptop where the fans suddenly kick into high gear for about 30 seconds, and then the laptop shuts down completely. This usually happens when he's playing games, but it never occurs when he's using Clip Studio Paint, which can be pretty demanding on the CPU. The laptop starts up again just fine after a shutdown, and we can't replicate the issue consistently. Despite my experience with computers, I don't have enough hardware knowledge to fix it. We've tried adjusting BIOS and GPU settings, but nothing seems to work. I'm hoping we can fix this without needing to open up the laptop, as I only have experience with desktops. Here are the specs of the laptop: MSI GF Series - 15.6" GeForce RTX 4060, Intel Core i7-12650H, 32GB Memory, 1TB PCIe SSD, running Windows 11.

Before you make any changes to the BIOS or other settings, make sure your data is backed up. It's always a good practice to avoid potential data loss when tinkering with system settings.
Make sure to check the temperatures while gaming using a tool like HWInfo. High temperatures can lead to thermal shutdowns, so it's worth monitoring to see if overheating might be the root cause.
It sounds like a graphics driver issue. Try using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely remove the current graphics driver, then reinstall it. Sometimes the drivers can stop responding, which might explain the ramp-up in fan speed followed by the shutdown. It’s a simple fix that could resolve the problem.

Could this still be the issue if it happens across multiple driver updates?
