Why Does My C Drive Show Less Space Than It Actually Uses?

I recently checked the properties of my C drive and it says I'm using 452 GB out of 484 GB. However, when I highlight all the contents in the C drive, including hidden items, they add up to only 315 GB. I ran a full scan with Windows Security, and it didn't find any viruses or issues. Can someone help me figure out what could be taking up the additional 100+ GB?

Have you tried emptying your recycle bin and clearing temp files? Those can add up, especially if you don't do it regularly. It might only free up a few gigabytes, but it's worth checking!

Yeah, but even checking my recycle bin showed only 3 GB and temp files added only 2 GB. So they probably aren’t the main issue here.

Consider using tools like Wiztree or WinDirStat to get a clearer picture of what's using space. Just be cautious when deleting anything; make sure it's not something critical to the system!

I used Wiztree, and it shows a lot more space being used than what Windows displays. For example, it reports that 'ProgramData' is taking up 74 GB, but it's only showing 7 GB in the actual drive. How is that possible?

Check your Disk Manager too; it can show you actual space usage on your partitions. Sometimes the swap file takes up significant space, especially if your RAM is low.
