Why Does My Gaming PC Restart When Under Heavy Load?

I've been experiencing an issue with my gaming PC where it disconnects from the monitor and seems to restart whenever I'm doing heavy tasks. For example, this happens when I'm encoding videos with Handbrake or VLC or when I'm running a machine learning model on Google Colab. My monitor goes black, I get a 'no HDMI detected' message, and then it takes me to the Windows lock screen as if my PC has restarted, but the system unit itself never completely powers off. This also occurs when I'm just leaving my PC on to download or update a game. Is there a specific reason for this, or could it be a bug?

It sounds like your PC might be encountering a crash rather than performing a full reboot. If you're just seeing a black screen followed by a lock screen, it could be that the screen is blanking out due to a timeout or something similar. I recommend checking the Event Viewer after these incidents to see if it provides any clues about what's happening. Heat issues are also common, so keep an eye on your CPU and GPU temperatures during heavy tasks.

It seems like your GPU might be crashing to prevent overheating, which is often a safety feature. Double check the temperatures of your GPU during these tasks. It's a good idea to monitor your GPU temps, especially under load.
