I have a keyboard and mouse set that connects through a single USB dongle. The keyboard works perfectly when I plug in the dongle, but the mouse has stopped responding. Both devices have worked well in the past, and I know the mouse isn't defective since it's rechargeable and the charging light turns red when I plug it in, indicating it's charging. I've tested this on two different machines with Windows 11, and the issue persists. What could be the reason behind the keyboard functioning while the mouse does not?

Sounds like a frustrating issue! Have you checked if the mouse is properly paired with the dongle? Sometimes, if the dongle doesn't recognize the mouse, it won't work even if it's from the same set. I personally prefer Bluetooth devices for this very reason; they seem to connect more reliably and save USB ports.
I wonder if the mouse's charging indicator is giving you the full picture. Usually, a green light signifies it's fully charged. If it stays red continuously, maybe it isn't charging properly. Also, check the software that may have come with the set—sometimes, you need to pair them again or configure settings for proper functionality.
You could be onto something there. I can't find the manual, so I'm not sure how it should behave. The light does turn off after a few seconds, which makes me think it might not be charging.
Thanks for your insight! I found a manual for a similar model which helped me figure it out—it actually needed re-pairing by pressing the mouse buttons and the scroll wheel together!

I've used it many times before and it has always worked. It's just been sitting in a box when not in use, so it's not damaged. They should work together since they are sold as a set.
