Why does my laptop keep restarting after just a few minutes of gaming?

Hey everyone! I've been having a strange issue with my ROG Zephyrus G14 2022. Whenever I start gaming, my laptop randomly restarts after about 5 to 10 minutes, regardless of the game I'm playing. It could be an intensive AAA title or a simpler indie game; it crashes on both.

This has happened before, but usually just once and then it would run fine for weeks, typically due to overheating. However, it's not overheating this time since the CPU temperature stays between 65 to 75°C, and the laptop doesn't feel hot at all.

Interestingly, just yesterday, I gamed for around 8 hours without any issues. Before this problem started, I did a full clean install because I'd experienced crashes accompanied by a buzzing noise in my headphones and a green screen, but while that issue seems to have been resolved, the random restarts persist.

In the Event Viewer, I've only seen Kernel-41 errors which aren't very helpful. This only seems to happen while I'm gaming; when I unplug the charger and run on battery, I get a quick BSOD and restart in 1-2 minutes.

I've run numerous stress tests and diagnostics with everything passing. I've also disabled CPU boost and tried various driver versions, but nothing changes. Plus, I previously had the thermal paste replaced due to overheating, and I recently cleaned the fans. I'm really at a loss for what could be wrong and since my laptop is out of warranty, I can't send it for repairs. Could this be a motherboard, PSU, or RAM issue? Any insights or experiences with similar problems would be greatly appreciated!

You might want to clean out the DirectX shaders from your system. Sometimes those get corrupted and can cause crashes during gameplay. I read a guide that shows how to do this effectively, might be worth a shot!

Unfortunately, it crashes every game I try, not just one. My laptop restarts no matter if it’s an indie game or a big title.

It sounds like you're dealing with a tough issue! First off, try checking for dump files from the BSODs. If your laptop starts normally or even in Safe Mode, look in C:WindowsMinidump for any crash logs. Zipping them up and sharing on an accessible file host could help pinpoint the problem. The more dump files you gather, the better!
