Why Does My MacBook Air Shut Down When Not Plugged In?

I've been having a frustrating issue with my MacBook Air. Lately, it shuts down just a few seconds after I start it up unless I keep it plugged in. It lets me log in, but as soon as it begins loading, the screen goes black and turns off. The battery percentage is still visible, so I know it's not completely dead. It does charge when I plug it in, which is confusing. I keep low power mode on all the time, and I'm wondering if that could be causing some problems. Any thoughts on why this is happening?

How old is your MacBook? If it's around 7 years, like you mentioned, that's pretty old for a laptop battery. Does it power off completely, or just shut down without warning after you log in?

Yeah, it's about 7 years old. I got it used about 5 years ago. It shuts down instantly once I enter my password and hit enter.

First, check your battery health. Go to System Settings > Battery, and click on the little 'i' info icon next to 'battery health'. It'll give you info on whether the battery is still good.

Honestly, it might be time to replace the battery. A battery that’s reached the end of its life can drain from 100% to dead in just seconds, which sounds like what’s happening here.
