Why Does My MacBook Keep Resetting the Date to 1969?

I've been having this strange issue with my MacBook Pro where the system clock resets to January 1, 1969 every few weeks after a slow restart. I always have the 'automatically update date and time' option turned off. While I try to catch it early, it's quite frustrating because it causes problems with software like Google Chrome due to the invalid date. I'm currently running Sonoma 14.1 and I know there's a software update waiting for Wi-Fi, but I'm curious if anyone else has experienced this issue or if it indicates a larger problem that I should address.

You might want to try setting the date and time manually and then updating your OS. I've noticed this problem with some older operating systems, and a simple update often resolves it.

You could also check the internal coin battery. It functions like a CMOS battery in a desktop PC and might need replacing if it's failing.

Since you keep the ‘automatically update date and time’ option turned off, it might be worth reconsidering that. Having the correct time is pretty crucial for your device to function properly.

Right? It seems odd that it would randomly choose 1969. I wonder if there's some programming reason behind it.
