Why Does My PC Keep Deleting My Downloads and Resetting Settings?

I'm having a really frustrating issue where my computer seems to have a mind of its own. I never activate Storage Sense, but it keeps turning itself on and deleting everything in my downloads folder. I try to turn it off, but it resets every time I reboot. This also messes with my browser settings; Edge keeps becoming my default browser, and other Windows settings, including Bluetooth, are reverting every time. I know there's no malware, and no one else uses my PC, so I'm at my wits' end. Any ideas on how to stop this from happening?

You might want to try disabling it through the registry editor. Here's how to do it:
1. Open regedit and navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREPoliciesMicrosoftWindowsStorageSense.
2. There, create or modify a DWORD (32-bit) value named AllowStorageSenseGlobal: set it to 0 to disable.
3. Close the Registry Editor and restart your system to see if that helps.

You mentioned there haven't been any updates, right? It’s good to double-check that your Windows update settings are turned off, but sometimes updates can sneak in. If nothing seems to change, you might want to dip into safe mode and see if the issues persist.

Just to eliminate another possibility—double-check that OneDrive isn't toggled on. Sometimes it can interfere with your file management and settings.

Honestly, it sounds like the issue might not be with Storage Sense at all. Sometimes, your user profile could be re-creating itself during login, which would cause downloads and browser settings to reset, as if a new user is logging in. You could check some guides on how to fix temporary profile errors.
