Why does my PC shut down and fans go wild during intense gaming?

I'm experiencing an odd issue with my PC during gaming. Whenever I play demanding GPU games, my display goes black, the fans become extremely noisy, and I can still hear game sounds, but the system essentially shuts down. This mainly happens with newer games, while lighter ones like Europa Universalis 4 and Age of Empires 2: DE run fine. The temperature of my GPU spikes to 90°C in menus, and the only way I can manage to play without crashing is by undervolting the GPU and setting everything to the lowest settings. My PC is pretty new, bought last July. So far, I've tried reducing the GPU power by 50%, undervolting, clearing the CMOS, updating the GPU drivers, and connecting the power supply to a different wall socket. Any suggestions?

It sounds like you might want to test with a different GPU. If your PC runs steadily without crashing, then it’s likely the RX 580 that’s causing the issues. Let me know if you have a backup GPU you can try!

I'll give that a shot! I've got an old Radeon HD Series 4700 I can put in. Fingers crossed!

Another thing to consider is your RAM. Try retraining it by disabling Fast Boot if you have that option. You should also avoid messing with the default overclock settings on the GPU, as that can lead to instability as well.

I actually don't use Fast Boot. I'm on AtlasOS, which is a modded version of Windows, and I already reset the Adrenaline settings.

Make sure to clean your GPU. Dust buildup can cause overheating issues, and repasting the thermal compound might help keep it cool too.
