Why Does My PC Sound Like a Jet Engine?

I built a new PC this January and it's been running fine, but I'm using it as a server and I can't sleep at night because it's so loud. I've messed with the BIOS fan curves and set everything to the silent preset, but the fans are still noisy. I've also tried creating my own fan curve, but that didn't help either. Even when I take the load off the system, the noise persists. I suspect my fans might be stuck at full speed, but I'm not sure what to check next. Any advice would be appreciated!

You should give this fan control software a shot: [getfancontrol.com](https://getfancontrol.com/). It might help you find a better balance for the fan speeds.

I'll give it a try and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the tip!

You might want to manually adjust the fan curves in the BIOS again. Maybe try a few different settings to see if that changes the noise level. Sometimes the presets aren’t very effective, so tweaking it yourself could help out!

Yeah, I know those presets often aren’t reliable. It sounds like your fans might just be stuck at high speed if you're still getting the same noise level.

Make sure your fans are connected in the right spots. The fan hub should be plugged into a 4-pin PWM connector, not a 3-pin. Also, check if the fans respond when you change the speed settings; that’s a good sign they’re working properly!

Good point! I’ll definitely check that out when I'm back home.

Try to identify which specific fans are the loudest. Is it the GPU, CPU, or case fans? This will help narrow down where to focus your efforts for a fix.

I think it’s the case fans. I ran the PC with just two of them for a while and it wasn’t as loud.
