Hey everyone, I need some advice. I've been using a TP-Link wireless USB stick to connect to my router since I didn't have direct access to it. Initially, I plugged it into a USB port on my case and it worked great, but then it started disconnecting occasionally. So, I moved the USB stick to a port on my motherboard, and it worked fine for months. However, it recently started disconnecting again, especially under heavy data loads. The router is really close, so I'm not sure what could be causing this issue. I haven't changed any settings or conditions except for switching the USB ports. Any ideas on what's going on?

Have you considered switching to a PCIe adapter? They tend to be more reliable and not much more expensive—around $20 for a decent Wi-Fi 5 card. Plus, they usually have better performance since they’re not in a spot that can pick up a lot of interference.
It sounds like your adapter might just be faulty, especially if it disconnects when it gets hot. It’s a common issue with these cheaper adapters. I recommend checking if it’s still under warranty and trying to get a replacement. It’s unlikely it’s damaging your USB ports, just a coincidence with the conditions.
Yeah, it does get pretty hot after long usage.
I've found that the cheaper PCIe cards can be less reliable though. It really depends on the model.
