Why does my TV keep turning on by itself at night?

I'm having a strange issue with my Sony Bravia smart TV from 2016. It's been working well, aside from a few discolored horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen. We've had to factory reset it once because it was slowing down from the movies we downloaded. However, recently, my dad has noticed that the TV turns on by itself in the middle of the night. He checked for any timers or alarm functions, but couldn't find anything. This started happening after we downloaded the Amazon Prime app last week. We're currently just turning off the TV at the power switch to avoid using extra electricity. What's causing this, and how can I fix it? Could it be related to the Amazon Prime download?

Also, I remember when we got our TV, the installer mentioned not turning it off completely every night because it could impact the lifespan. So it’s good that you’re being cautious about that! Just make sure to dive into your settings to see if anything weird is causing the issue now that the Prime app is installed.

What devices do you usually keep connected to the TV? Sometimes other HDMI devices can trigger it. You mentioned you currently have nothing connected other than power, so your Wi-Fi might be the culprit. It stays on at night, which might interact with the TV's network settings.

Right now, we only have the power cable plugged in. We used to have cable, but switched to streaming services a while ago. The Wi-Fi has been on all night for the past few years.

It sounds like your TV might have HDMI-CEC enabled or a network wake feature. HDMI-CEC can cause devices connected via HDMI to send signals that could turn on the TV. Since you're not using any HDMI devices now, it might be easier to check if there's any setting related to waking the TV up on the network, especially with smart apps.

Can you explain more about HDMI-CEC and how to check the settings for it?
