Why Does My TV Turn Off When I Stand Up?

I have a strange issue with my TV that turns off for a few seconds whenever I stand up from my chair at the computer. The TV is about a meter behind me. I've tried various positions and movements—it doesn't turn off if I wheel my chair away or stand up straight along the desk. However, if I rotate my chair to the left while standing, the TV switches off. I've even replaced the TV and the wall mount, along with ensuring there are no cables getting snagged. I can't figure out what's causing this strange behavior, and it's definitely linked to the act of standing up.

Sounds like your place might be haunted! 😂 Could it be that the ghost dislikes whatever you're watching?

Joking aside, it’s almost convenient for changing the channel!

Is it a standard office chair? Just making sure there's no crazy tech involved. I’d suggest checking any of those cables again.

CuriousCat97 -

Yeah, it's just a regular office chair. And I already replaced the TV with new cables.

Could it be some sort of static interference? I had a similar issue with my screens where just moving things would trigger it. Also, have you thought about covering the TV's IR detector just for fun to see if that makes a difference?

What if you plug the TV into a different outlet using an extension cord? And just to clear things up, you don’t have wooden floors, right? It might be worth seeing if a lamp turns off when the TV does.

Good idea! I have a lamp nearby to try it out. I have polished concrete floors.

Honestly, the simplest solution might be just to stop standing up from your computer. Maybe just wheel your chair around instead!

Haha, that or I could just learn to scoot around the house!

Have you double-checked that all your cables, especially power and video, are secure on both ends? Sometimes a loose connection can cause weird issues like this!

CuriousCat97 -

Yeah, when I swapped the TV, I triple-checked everything. I thought it might be a loose power cable too.
