Why Does My USB Modem Cause BSODs When Tethering?

I've been troubleshooting an issue where my USB modem connection leads to frequent Blue Screens of Death (BSODs) on my Windows 11 PC. I've tested the RAM and it shows no errors, swapped out the GPU, checked the power supply, and even reinstalled Windows 11 from scratch. Each time, the BSOD triggers as soon as I try to establish a Wi-Fi connection, specifically using an AX900 USB modem that I bought on Amazon, alongside tethering from my iPhone XS. All drivers, including the BIOS, are up to date. Has anyone else experienced something similar or have any insights into this?

Definitely provide the crash dumps along with the specific BSOD error codes when you can. Those details are crucial for narrowing down the root cause of the errors.

You might want to provide more details about your USB modem and what it’s connected to. Tethering implies some physical connection—could you clarify if the modem is hooked directly to your PC or if your phone is acting as a modem in another way? The source of the BSODs could be linked to the drivers or hardware of the device you're using.

To diagnose BSODs effectively, it's important to gather dump files as they contain crash logs. If you can start Windows normally or even in Safe Mode, check the C:WindowsMinidump folder for any files. Zip the folder and upload the dump files to a file sharing service. If you need help finding dump files, check out tutorials on how to set them up for analysis.
