Why does my WD Passport get disconnected after restarting my PC?

I'm having an issue where my WD Passport Ultra disappears from my system whenever I restart my PC. I have to unplug it and plug it back in to regain detection, but this doesn't happen after a complete shutdown and startup. I've already tried various troubleshooting steps, like changing power settings, reinstalling drivers, and using different USB cables and ports. Interestingly, my other WD Passports work fine, and I even tested the problematic one on my laptop after a restart without any issues. So it seems specific to my PC.

It sounds like you might want to check your BIOS settings related to USB ports. Sometimes, there are options that control how they receive power. Also, try disabling the 'Fast Startup' feature in the Control Panel under Power settings if you haven't already.

I ran into a similar issue before. It could be an indication of a power problem or even something to do with the drive letter assigned to that specific Passport. Since you mentioned the 'Unknown USB device' error, it might be worth looking into that as well.
