Why does one computer boot with a 2080Super but not the RX 6800?

I've got two different computer setups that I'm working with. The first one has a Gigabyte B760 DS3H AC DDR4 motherboard, a SAMA 850W power supply, and an Intel 14600K CPU. It boots fine with a 2080Super graphics card but won't display anything when I try to use the RX 6800; the fans spin, but the monitor remains dark.

The second setup is based on an MSI B550 Gaming Plus motherboard, paired with a Corsair RM 750x power supply and an AMD 5600 CPU. Interestingly, this setup boots without issues using either graphics card. What could be causing the RX 6800 to fail to boot in the first computer?

Make sure to check what PCIe generation your BIOS is set to. If it's on auto, it can sometimes cause problems. Switching to PCIe gen 3 or 4 might help.

That’s worth checking out! But I'd need the 2080Super to get into the BIOS first. Do you think there could be a power delivery issue too? The 2080 takes a 6-pin connector and the 6800 requires an 8-pin.

Did you remember to use Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to clean out the old drivers before switching cards? Using different drivers can lead to all kinds of issues, especially between brands.

I didn't get a chance to do that since the RX 6800 wouldn't boot at all. Just a black screen.

It might sound silly, but are you sure you have the right drivers installed for the RX 6800? Sometimes it's an obvious thing but can be overlooked.

Not a silly question at all! I'm positive I have the correct drivers. But if I can't even boot to BIOS, do drivers really affect anything?
