Why is Chrome using so much of my laptop’s resources?

I'm stuck using a work-issued laptop that comes with pre-installed programs, and unfortunately, I can't install another browser, not even Edge. We're required to use Chrome because our workplace apps supposedly only work with it. The big problem is that when Chrome is open, my laptop becomes super slow, and I can't do anything else. Any idea why this is happening?

It might not just be Chrome slowing you down but the security software your company installed. Sometimes that can hog resources too!

Sounds like your work laptop might actually be a netbook or a Chromebook. Those tend to have pretty limited hardware and can struggle with heavier applications like Chrome. Check if that’s the case!

How many tabs do you usually have open? Chrome can be a memory hog, but there are ways to minimize how much it uses. Still, I haven’t seen much benefit from those methods personally.

Honestly, Chrome gets a bad rap, but I’ve never had issues—I've got 16GB of RAM on my old laptop! Maybe it’s more about your laptop’s specs.

This shouldn’t happen on a decent computer, so I’m guessing your work issued you a piece of junk. What are the laptop’s specs?

You might not have enough RAM. What brand and model is your laptop? That could really impact performance.

Sometimes laptops get bogged down with monitoring software too. Might want to check if that’s the case!
