I was using Discord on my computer when I got a notification that said 'A new audio device has been detected: 7Seconds Microphone.' I thought it was linked to my headphones and clicked yes to switch to it. But this notification has appeared twice now, including a few days ago when I chose not to switch. After disconnecting my headphones, the 7Seconds input device still showed up until I closed and restarted Discord. I have no idea what this 7Seconds microphone is, and I haven't connected any other devices to my Mac. I'm starting to worry about spyware since I can't find any information online about it. I've even run Malwarebytes, and it reported clean. Can anyone help clarify what's going on?

It could also be related to an application on your Mac that uses virtual audio devices, like soundboard or recording apps. Even if you haven't noticed a new app, some older software can create virtual devices. Double-check your installed apps for anything you might not recognize. If nothing seems off, you might be in the clear!
It sounds like Discord is picking up a phantom audio device. Sometimes, software can mistakenly detect devices that aren’t actually connected. The '7Seconds Microphone' could be a glitch or a remnant from a previous program or virtual audio device that isn't functioning properly. If you haven't installed anything new, it might just be a bug. Restarting Discord was a good move, and if it keeps happening, you might want to check your sound settings.
Yeah, I’ve experienced similar issues before. Sometimes these device prompts are just annoying glitches. If it continues, a clean reinstall of Discord could help clear that up.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll look into my apps and see if I recognize anything unusual.
