Why is Minecraft running poorly on my new PC?

Hey everyone! I just built a new PC with an Intel i7 12700F, a GeForce RTX 4060, and 32GB of RAM. While this setup does really well with games like GTA V—where I get around 70-100 FPS but occasionally dip below 50—I'm struggling with Minecraft. Even with everything maxed out, I'm getting only about 80 FPS, which can drop under 40 at times. I tried playing an older version, 1.12, and noticed the same issues. Lowering the render distance helps a bit, but my CPU and GPU usage stays around 30%. Is there anything I can do to boost my FPS without sacrificing quality? I should mention that I'm not using shaders or 4K resolution since my monitor is 1080p, and all drivers are up to date.

Minecraft isn’t the best optimized game out there, so performance dips are pretty common, even with a strong setup. You might want to try out Sodium instead of Optifine for better performance. If you eventually consider shaders, go with Iris or Oculus for a smoother experience. Those can really help!

I'll give Sodium a shot. Thanks for the tip!

Where can I find Sodium for download?

Are you playing in single player or multiplayer? I’ve noticed that performance can vary greatly in those modes.

I'm mostly on single player. Multiplayer usually runs smoother.
