My computer fan is vibrating like crazy and making an awful noise that I just can't ignore. I've taken the fan out of the PC, and it seems like it's just refusing to spin smoothly. I really can't figure out what's going on with it. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this?

I've dealt with a similar issue on my laptop before. The fan's bearing was just going bad, and it made this horrible noise, like a plane trying to take off! Unfortunately, a lot of laptop fans can't be opened or maintained, which is part of the whole disposable tech problem. Just make sure the replacement fan is compatible since there's a lot of unreliable options out there.

It sounds like your fan might have a broken bearing. The best solution is to replace the fan entirely. If you're looking for a temporary fix, you could try lubing the fan with sewing machine oil instead of WD40. Just keep in mind that this is only a short-term solution; the fan will eventually need replacing. You might get lucky and extend its life by a few weeks or even up to a year, but it's better to plan on getting a new one soon.
