Why is my CPU overheating despite repasting and cleaning these recent weeks?

I've got a 3-year-old PC build, and recently started experiencing serious overheating issues with my CPU, reaching temperatures up to 100°C. Initially, I didn't bother to check it out because I was busy with projects, but after repasting the CPU using Corsair TM30 (the only option available at the store), the temperatures normalized briefly, idling around 50°C. However, after running Chrome and some YouTube videos, the temps soared back up to 85°C. I decided to ignore it while working on my project, but eventually my apps began crashing and music was glitching, prompting me to repaste again and clean out all the dust using alcohol.

After all that, I just played some Marvel Rivals and hit 100°C again, now idling around 85°C. I have my fans running at full blast when temps hit 75°C, but they don't seem to help at all. I've removed the side panels hoping for better airflow, but still no luck. I'm using an i7-12700k with a Corsair H150 360mm AIO, and I checked that the pump is working; one pipe is warm and the other is cool. I'm at a loss—either my thermal paste is the culprit, or something's wrong with the AIO itself.

Your AIO might have a circulation issue if the tubes are showing such a temperature difference. It could be an air bubble or even a weak pump. If something's not circulating properly, the hot side will heat up while the cold side remains cool. Keep an eye on it! The thermal paste shouldn’t be this big of a problem on its own, especially if it was applied well. But just in case, maybe consider trying a different thermal paste if you haven't already!

That makes sense! I've had similar issues before, and it turned out my pump was underperforming. You might want to see if you can try another AIO or even just a different brand of thermal paste just to rule things out.

If you're feeling vibrations in the pipes, that’s a good sign that your pump is at least trying to work. But if temps are still crazy high, it might be time to seriously think about a different cooler. TM30 isn’t the best, but it shouldn't send your CPU temperatures skyrocketing like that either.

Yeah, I've read mixed reviews about TM30. I’m really thinking about swapping it out for something like Arctic MX-4 or Noctua's thermal paste, just to see if it makes a difference!

Sounds like your AIO is toast. If there's no gurgling noise and the warm tube is too hot compared to the cool one, it's probably not pumping like it should. I'd recommend checking for any visible damage or considering a replacement if this keeps up.
