I'm really struggling with my Windows 10 desktop, which is unexpectedly showing as VDI (Virtual Desktop Infrastructure). I've lost permissions to several programs, and I noticed something called msmpeng2 using a lot of my RAM. I'm worried that my computer might be infected or compromised. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

You mentioned that it's your personal computer and not a corporate one, so it shouldn't normally show as VDI. It’s a bit odd. If you recently had your email compromised, it's possible malware got in somehow. I'd suggest reinstalling Windows if you feel like you've lost control over it. You might need to do a clean install to flush out everything.

I did try to install Windows from their website, but now I'm questioning if I did everything right. Is there a guide on how to do a safe format?

It sounds like you're dealing with a potential malware issue, but also a misconfiguration with your Windows setup. If your desktop is showing as VDI, that means it thinks it's operating in a virtual environment, which could affect your apps like Teams. Have you checked for malware? There are guides online that might help you in removing any threats.
