Why is My Friend’s 9060XT Showing Low GPU Usage?

A friend recently built a PC featuring a 9060XT graphics card, an i5 12400F CPU, and 32GB of RAM. However, when he plays games at 1080p, like Cyberpunk on ultra settings, his GPU usage sits around 40-50% max, while the CPU usage runs close to 90%. This results in only 30-40 FPS without FSR. He's experiencing similar performance in other games like The Finals, Fortnite, and Ghost of Tsushima. What could be causing this low GPU usage?

Have him run Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely clear out the current drivers, then reinstall them. Sometimes leftover files can mess with GPU performance.

It seems like the system may have been misconfigured in the BIOS, making it hard to pinpoint the exact issue without physical access to the setup.

Sounds like a cheap prebuilt! Did they seriously just put one stick of 32GB RAM in there? This isn't a good sign.

Yeah, that's exactly what's happening with this setup.

There might be driver issues at play here, but with an i5 12400F, it shouldn’t be bottlenecking. Suggest trying 1440p; it could ease the CPU load without drastically affecting the FPS.

He recently switched out the SSD and reinstalled the drivers, but it continues to run poorly, so I don't think it's just a driver problem.

It sounds like your friend's CPU might be bottlenecking his performance. My setup with a 9060XT and a Ryzen 5 9600X is getting high GPU usage and around 190 FPS in Cyberpunk. I'd suggest checking settings in the AMD Adrenalin software, as well as making sure his BIOS settings are optimized for performance. Maybe look for specific configurations that work well with Cyberpunk and that GPU as well!

I checked some benchmarks, and a setup like his should be pushing closer to 100 FPS on those settings.

Make sure to check what type of RAM is being used and verify it's running in the correct slots. Also, see if the CPU is overheating and causing throttle issues. Sometimes it can spike usage unexpectedly.

InfoSeeker101 -

The CPU usage is low when idle but spikes to around 50% briefly when gaming. No overheating issues noticed.

Updating the BIOS can help. Also, reset everything to factory settings and make sure XMP is enabled. Check if Resizable BAR is active too; it can improve performance significantly.
