Why Is My Gigabit Internet Suddenly So Slow?

I've been enjoying gigabit internet speeds with around 900 Mbps for downloads and 880 Mbps for uploads. However, now I'm seeing my speeds drop to less than 50 Mbps. I haven't made any hardware changes recently, so I'm not sure what could have caused this sudden drop. Any ideas on what might be wrong?

First things first, try restarting your router—it can sometimes help clear issues. If that doesn't work, it's probably a good idea to get in touch with your ISP. Be prepared; the first person you talk to may not have the best solutions. Insist on speaking to someone higher up if you're not getting anywhere. I had a similar situation, and it turned out the local relay had been switched to a limited speed mode without notice!

You should double-check your contract terms. Sometimes ISPs throttle speeds based on usage. How much are you downloading? It could be a potential reason for the slowdown.

Is throttling still common? I thought most places had moved past that.
