Why is my internet speed capped at 6MB/s when I should be getting more?

I'm having a tough time with my internet speeds and could really use some help. I recently switched from a wireless connection to a wired one with a Cat7 cable, hoping to improve my download speeds for games on Steam. My setup includes a Gigabyte x870E Aorus Pro motherboard that supports 2.5GB speeds, and my modem can handle up to 1000 Mbps. I'm paying for a 640 Mbps download and 42 Mbps upload speed through NBN. However, despite these capabilities, my download speed remains stuck at 6MB/s. I've reset the modem, checked for speed limiters, and even picked up a Cat6 cable (which I haven't tried yet). I'm in Australia, where I've heard the network can be problematic, but I'm really looking for help to diagnose what's going wrong with my connection.

It sounds like you're experiencing a pretty frustrating issue! Have you checked if other devices connected to the same network are getting better speeds? You might want to use a tool like Google Speed Test or Ookla to measure from different devices.

Yeah, I've tested the WiFi too and it gave me about the same speeds, using the same sites for testing.
