Why is my iPhone using so much WiFi data?

Hey everyone! I work on a ship where I have a limit of 1.5GB of WiFi usage each day. Recently, I've noticed that my iPhone is using an excessive amount of data, consuming my entire limit in just a few minutes after I turn it on. I've already enabled low data mode and turned off background refresh and syncing. Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this issue? I'd really like to stay connected with my family at home!

Have you checked your settings? You can see exactly where your data is being used under the settings menu. Just be aware that this only works for cellular data, not WiFi usage which is a bit of a bummer for iPhone users.

Yeah, it's kind of frustrating that Apple doesn't provide that info for WiFi. It's definitely something Android handles better.

What app do you use to scan for malware? Just to be safe, it's worth checking if there's something unwanted using up your data.

I haven't used any. Do you have a recommendation?

When you mention high amounts of WiFi, are you sure you mean WiFi and not cellular data? They're not the same thing, and often people mix them up, especially if you're referencing data usage limits.

I think it's just internet usage? I’m not using cellular data at all.

On Android, there's an option to see which app is hogging data. Unfortunately, iPhones can be a bit limited in this aspect. Have you tried looking for any suspicious apps?
