Why is my laptop crashing when it goes idle?

I have an ASUS TUF Gaming A16 laptop with an AMD Ryzen 9 7940HX and NVIDIA RTX 4070 GPU. Lately, I've been experiencing crashes or a black screen when my laptop is idle for just 2-3 minutes, especially when it's on battery or in low-power mode. I've tried resetting Windows, testing RAM with memtest86, reseating the RAM, and running the laptop in Safe Mode without issues. The crashes seem to occur if I restart and don't sign in for around 10-15 seconds. Interestingly, I can prevent crashes by keeping heavy applications (like a large Minecraft modpack) running in the background. I've also encountered various error codes including HYPERVISOR_ERROR and PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA. Any ideas on how to fix this?

It sounds like you might need to get some dump files to analyze what's causing the BSODs. If you can boot into Windows or Safe Mode, check the C:WindowsMinidump folder for crash logs. Zip them up and upload to a file sharing service—Catbox or MediaFire usually work well. This way, we can take a closer look and maybe diagnose the issue better. If you don't have many dump files, follow a guide to set it up to capture small memory dumps.

Your issue might be related to C-states in your BIOS. When the laptop goes idle, it looks for lower power settings, which can sometimes conflict with power demands from the dedicated GPU or the integrated graphics. Try adjusting the C-state settings in your BIOS and see if that helps. Also, testing by turning off the iGPU or dedicated GPU individually could provide insight into which one is causing the issue when it tries to switch power states.
