Why is my Linux distro so slow on a 5400 RPM HDD?

Hey everyone! I've been trying out the latest versions of Ubuntu and Fedora on my 1TB hard drive, but both of them are running super slow and feel really bogged down, even hours after booting up. I'm not just talking about boot time; even simple tasks like browsing on Firefox with a few tabs open feel heavy and laggy. Could this terrible performance be solely because of my 5400 RPM HDD? For reference, I'm using a Lenovo Ideapad L340 with an Intel i7 9750h and 16GB of RAM.

Yeah, that 5400 RPM drive is definitely a big bottleneck. Upgrading to an SSD would make a huge difference in speed and performance.

I feel you! 5400 RPM drives are really sluggish. Most modern Linux distros are optimized for faster drives, so they can feel super heavy on older HDDs like yours. An SSD could totally change your experience.

That's so true! It's like going from a turtle to a hare once you switch to an SSD.
