Why is my mouse lighting up but not responding?

Hey everyone! I've run into a strange issue with my mouse. It was working perfectly fine until I turned off my PC and went outside for a bit. When I got back home, it just stopped working right out of the blue. I tried plugging it into another USB port, but it wouldn't respond, even though another mouse works just fine in that same port. Curiously, the non-working mouse works normally when plugged into a laptop, so that rules out a complete failure. The weird part is when I boot into the BIOS with the faulty mouse, it doesn't respond, and the system starts lagging until I unplug it. Any ideas or troubleshooting tips? Thanks!

You might want to check if there's been any recent Windows updates—sometimes those can mess up USB or Thunderbolt ports. I’ve been dealing with similar issues on my work laptop and it can be a real hassle trying to untangle any driver conflicts. Just something to consider while you troubleshoot.

Interesting point! But the mouse was working just fine two hours before this happened and I didn't do any updates, so I'm not sure if that’s it.

Sounds like it might be easier to just buy a new mouse since they’re pretty cheap. There could be a quirky driver issue at play too. I remember having trouble with a workstation that caused constant lag with some mice, which might have been linked to a video card driver problem. Once I switched to an older driver, the issues seemed to settle down. If you haven't tried it yet, plugging the mouse into a USB 2.0 port instead of a USB 3.0 could help—just a thought! But honestly, sometimes it’s better to cut your losses for a $15 mouse.

I did try putting it in a USB 2.0 port and updated the NVIDIA driver, but no luck so far. I might try a few more things before I give up on it.
