Why is my new gaming PC underperforming?

Hey everyone! I recently built a new gaming PC and installed Windows along with all my games, but I'm not getting the performance I expected. For example, Helldivers 2 only runs at 40-50 FPS, while I've seen that my build should handle 75-80 FPS at high settings in 1440p. Similarly, Battlefield 6 runs at 50-60 FPS with high settings, but my setup should be capable of more. I even tried using cachyOS to rule out any Windows-related issues, but the performance didn't improve. Here are my full specs: i5 14400f CPU, 5070 12GB GPU, Gigabyte B760M D4HP DDR4 motherboard, 16GB DDR4 RAM, 650W PSU, and a 2TB SSD.

Make sure you've enabled Rebar (Resizable BAR), as this can improve performance in certain games. Also, running a synthetic benchmark test can help you see if your performance is within 20% of reviewed setups.

It sounds like your CPU might be bottlenecking your GPU, which can definitely cause lower frame rates. Also, while 16GB of RAM should generally be enough for gaming, more RAM can help in some situations. It might be worth considering an upgrade down the line.

I’ve watched some footage where the i7-13600K paired with the 5070 was hitting 85 FPS or more in Helldivers 2. Your i5-14400F isn’t much weaker, but CPU-heavy games could explain the performance issues.

Definitely check the CPU vs. GPU usage while playing. Games like Helldivers and BF6 can lean heavily on the CPU, so seeing those numbers might help clarify things.
