Why is My PC Storage Filling Up Without Downloads?

I've recently noticed that my PC's main disk storage has been gradually decreasing, and it's puzzling because I hardly download anything directly onto that drive. My downloads usually go to a secondary drive with more capacity. Just a few days ago, I had around 20GB free after uninstalling some apps, but now I'm down to just 169MB left without having downloaded anything new. The only things I did between checks were watching videos and installing Blender along with a few addons and rigs, all of which I made sure to save to the correct drive. Can anyone suggest what might be causing my storage to fill up?

Check if your Blender is creating cache files. Sometimes those files can take up a lot more space than you'd expect. Look in your project settings for where those are saved.

I checked that, but it was only around 500MB. It's not a huge amount compared to what's missing.

I had a similar issue before where my storage dwindled unexpectedly. Things like shader cache files can pile up (I had about 100GB worth), as well as large Chrome caches or leftover files from uninstalled programs. You might want to clean those up too.

I didn't even think about shader files or browser cache. I'll check those out.

Have you tried performing a full Disk Cleanup? It might be that your temp files are accumulating. Sometimes Windows can back up files more than once, and I've seen that happen after a failed update, stacking install files without realizing.

Try typing 'cleanmgr' in the Run dialog. It will help clean up system files, including previous Windows installations that can take up a significant amount of space, like 9-18GB.

You might want to try using a tool like Treesize or WinDirStat. These programs help visualize what's taking up space on your disk, so you can figure out where all that storage is going.
