Why is my PC turning on from keyboard or mouse input?

I built my own PC a few years back, and I've been facing a quirky issue: it turns on when I press a button on the keyboard or even when I just nudge the mouse, even after I've fully shut it down through the start menu. I've looked through the settings and made sure that both "power on by keyboard" and "power on by mouse" are disabled in the motherboard settings. I've also turned off quick start and hibernation options in Windows. Despite trying all of this, the problem persists. I usually have to turn off my mouse and keep my keyboard out of my cat's reach to prevent the PC from turning on! What else can I try?

Have you tried toggling the options on in the BIOS? Turn it on, save, restart, and then turn it back off? That might reset something that’s stuck.

I thought I had done that, but I went back in to double-check. I toggled them on, saved & quit, rebooted, then toggled them off again, and it seems to be working now! Thanks a bunch!

You might want to enable the ErP Ready setting in your motherboard BIOS. That sometimes helps with these kinds of issues.

Have you checked the settings in Device Manager for your mouse and keyboard? There are power management options there that might help prevent them from waking your PC.

I know that helps, but it would also stop my mouse and keyboard from waking the PC from sleep, which isn't ideal. I'll keep that as a last resort.
