Why is my PC’s internet speed so much slower than my phone’s?

I'm using my phone to share its Wi-Fi connection with my PC since my USB Wi-Fi adapter isn't performing well. My phone gets internet speeds up to 300 Mbps, but my PC's speed varies between 20 Mbps and 200 Mbps. I thought replacing the cable would help, so I bought a new USB 3.0 cable, but I'm still experiencing the same issues. To clarify, my phone is connected to Wi-Fi and not using mobile data. Any suggestions?

It sounds like there might be a bottleneck between your phone and PC causing the speed drop. Make sure both ends of the USB connection are plugged into blue USB 3.0 ports. It's also worth checking if the USB tethering driver on your phone is up to date in Windows Device Manager. Sometimes background processes or system updates can eat into your bandwidth too. If it's getting too hot, your phone might also throttle tethering speeds. If possible, try using a direct Ethernet connection or consider getting a better USB 3.0 Wi-Fi adapter for more stable speeds.

Actually, my PC only has USB 3.0 and 3.1 ports. Due to the distance from the modem and the lack of Ethernet ports in my room, a direct connection isn't really feasible. But I'll definitely check into the USB tethering driver!

I've faced similar issues for years, and one fix that significantly improved my situation was installing a powered Wi-Fi extender. I connected my PC directly to the extender using an Ethernet cable. This way, I can enjoy good speeds for streaming wirelessly, but if I'm downloading large files, I switch to the wired connection for faster speeds.
