Why is my phone draining battery and overheating in public?

I've noticed that when I'm out in public, especially at school, my phone's battery drains a lot faster than when I'm at home. For example, if I play a game at home, my battery goes from 100% to 95% in about 20 minutes. But at school, after playing for the same amount of time, it drops to around 85%. I have an iPhone 13 Pro that I've had since it came out, and recently I've also seen that it heats up more easily, especially while charging and using it at the same time. I could do this without any issues before. Is there something wrong with my phone, or is there a specific reason for this?

Since your iPhone is around five years old, its battery may have degraded, which is common for lithium batteries. You can check the battery health in your settings; it usually tells you about degradation. To help preserve battery life, try to keep the charge between 30% and 70%. And yes, the type of signal you're getting at school versus home can also impact how much power your phone uses.

Your phone loses charge quicker when it's constantly trying to get a signal, which can happen with bad internet connectivity. If the signal is weak, the modem works harder, draining the battery faster. So, that might be why you're seeing a difference between school and home battery usage.

You mentioned you're not connected to school Wi-Fi; that could still be an issue. If you're regularly switching between signals, it might just be working harder to find a connection. As for battery replacement, yes, you can go to a T-Mobile store to get it replaced if your battery health shows it's degraded!
