Am I at risk of a virus after being redirected while browsing?

Hey everyone! I was just browsing the internet and got redirected to a bunch of sketchy websites – you know, the ones where you click a link and it takes you somewhere totally unexpected. While I was on those sites, I noticed a brief notification that said "download," but it disappeared quickly. I'm on mobile and using the Brave browser. I checked both my phone's downloads and my browser's history, and everything seems clear. However, my phone has been running really slowly, and I've encountered similar sites before, so I'm quite concerned. My question is, is it possible that something downloaded itself and just vanished, or did my browser block it, which is why I only saw the notification for a moment? I apologize if this sounds like a silly question, but I've mainly found information regarding PCs and not much about mobile malware.

Honestly, the best prevention is to avoid those sketchy sites. You might want to switch to Firefox for better add-on support like uBlock Origin. And yes, the mobile version supports it too!

I get that it's about prevention, but if malware already slipped in, how would that help?

You're right to be cautious! Mobile browsers usually do a good job of sandboxing, so as long as you stick to safe downloads and apps, you should be alright. It doesn't hurt to add an antivirus app just for that extra layer of security.

Thanks, I’ll check out some AV options just to be safe.

If you haven’t downloaded or run any suspicious files yourself, you should be fine! Just be sure to install some protection like uBlock Lite. Brave has decent built-in protection, too, so it’s good that you’re using it.

That's a relief! But what if something did download without me knowing?
