Why Is My RTX 4080 Super Hitting High Temps When Launching Games?

Hey everyone! I've got an RTX 4080 Super ROG Strix that I've been using for almost a year now. Lately, I've noticed a strange issue: every time I start a game for the first time after turning on my PC, the temperatures spike really high. For example, when launching Cyberpunk 2077, my GPU temperature jumps to about 83 degrees, and the hotspot can hit 108 degrees! Once I reach the game menu, the temps normalize to around 66-68 degrees for the chip and 85-88 for the hotspot. I'm a bit worried this could damage the card since this happens consistently on first launches. I haven't overclocked anything and I'm using default settings. Should I reach out to Asus support about this?

Honestly, you might want to consider repasting it, especially since those temps are on the higher side. A hotspot temp of 108 is definitely too hot for comfort. I’ve called out ASUS before for bad temps in their ROG line, so you’re not alone!

That’s true, but if I do it myself, I’ll lose my warranty, which still has two years left. I need to find a service that can do it!
