I recently built a PC with a Ryzen 9 9950X, and I'm noticing that it rarely boosts past 5.1GHz, even if AMD states it can reach 5.7GHz under the right conditions. I haven't adjusted any settings like Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) or touched the BIOS yet; I just installed the CPU and went with it. Here's my full build for context:
- Ryzen 9 9950X
- RTX 5070 Ti 16 GB
- Lian LI Galahad 2 360mm AIO cooler
- G.skill Flare 64GB DDR5 6000MHz (EXPO enabled in BIOS)
- MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi motherboard
- Adata XPG Gammix S70 2TB Gen 4 NVMe SSD
- Corsair RM850X 80+ GOLD PSU
- Lian Li vector V100R case
- Running Windows 11.
Am I experiencing normal performance, or could there be a problem with my setup?

Just a heads up, the max boost of 5.7GHz is for single-core tasks. If you're using all cores during stress testing, it won’t reach that - which is more common. You're likely seeing the right performance here, as the CPU behaves as expected under load.
During all-core loads, you can realistically expect around 5.2-5.3GHz, but for lighter tasks, it might hit 5.5-5.7GHz. If you’re genuinely stuck at 5.1GHz, a BIOS reset might be in order. Also, tuning with Curve Optimizer can help improve performance and efficiency. Just remember to check the effective clock in HWinfo; that's where you'll see the real performance metrics.

That's good to know! Thanks for clearing that up!
