Why is my syslog filling up my SSD?

I'm really puzzled about this issue. I haven't downloaded anything or made any major changes, yet my SSD is completely full—like, I have 0 bytes left! Now, when I start my PC, the Gnome Display Manager won't even launch. I'm using Ubuntu 25.04. Should I just go for a fresh install, or is there something else I can do?

It sounds like your syslog might be logging errors repeatedly, taking up all that space. Reinstalling the OS could be the easiest solution since troubleshooting could take a while and be a pain.

But will a fresh install actually solve the problem? You could end up facing the same issue again. I’d suggest checking what’s consuming all that space first.

It's tough to check anything when the display manager isn’t working!

If you haven't done much on the system yet, just go for a fresh install. Trying to debug could lead to more complications, and starting over might save you time in the long run.
