Why Is My TV Audio So Crackly When Using My PC?

I recently upgraded my graphics card from a GT 1030 to a GTX 1060 3GB and I've been using my TV's speakers for audio. Ever since the upgrade, the sound has been terrible. I get random crackling noises, which can sometimes stop, but it's frustrating since I like to play games and it wrecks the experience. The audio works perfectly when I connect my Xbox, so I'm guessing the problem is with how my PC handles the audio. I've tried a bunch of solutions like disabling other audio devices, updating all my audio drivers, turning off audio enhancements, and even doing a clean install of my GPU drivers, but nothing seems to fix it. Windows troubleshooter doesn't help either, as it just restarts my PC and the crackling remains.

Is your PC's volume set to 100%? Try lowering it a bit and adjusting the TV's volume as well. Sometimes the balance can affect the audio quality.

Tried that, but it didn’t help! The crackling is still there.

It sounds like you might want to check your cables. If you’re using HDMI, switching to a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter could help. Also, try swapping out your HDMI cable if you have a spare! Sometimes it's just the connection that's causing issues.

I only have HDMI inputs for my TV, but I'll definitely consider getting a new HDMI cable!

One thing that worked for me was getting a fiber optic HDMI cable. They can be a bit pricey, but they really cleared up the audio when my PC was connected to the TV. Might be worth a shot!

How much do those usually cost for a shorter length?

Have you looked into getting a decent headset instead? Some cheaper options can provide better sound without the crackling issue.

I do have headphones, but the wire is broken so I need to replace them first.

Make sure your audio drivers are set correctly. Sometimes, the system defaults to a different audio option. Since you're using NVIDIA, switching to the default high-definition audio device might resolve your issue. It’s good to troubleshoot the software side before diving into hardware changes.

Could you explain that a bit more? I’m not super savvy with software settings, even though I've had my PC since 2020.
