I used to enjoy a solid WiFi connection for gaming, but it got even better when I switched to using an ethernet cord, pulling speeds of around 700 Mbps. Unfortunately, my new puppy chewed through the cord, splitting it in half. After that, my computer started having trouble connecting to WiFi. I bought a new cord, but my puppy won't let it stay intact. Now, my computer can connect to WiFi again, but the speed is really sluggish with constant lag spikes, sometimes dropping to a mere 40 Mbps and cutting out completely. My specs include a 3070 Ti, an i7 12700, and 32 GB of RAM, and I think I have WiFi 6. I'm wondering: Could the dog's chewing be responsible for the current WiFi issues? Is this some kind of hardware problem or could it be a virus?

You might want to check the cable from your router to the wall or your ISP device. If that cable is damaged too, it could definitely mess with your connection.
