Why is my Zotac 5080 running at 2800MHz out of the box?

I recently got a Zotac Solid Core OC 5080, and I'm surprised to see it's running at 2800MHz right out of the box, which is above the advertised clock rate of 2640MHz. Could this be just a stroke of luck? I'm aware that I can overclock the card further and plan to do so later, but I'm curious why the clock speed is already 100+ MHz higher than the spec without any overclocking.

It’s likely due to recent driver updates that have allowed for a higher boost curve while still adhering to the set thermal and voltage limits. You got a good card there, but if you want to see just how great it can be, consider pushing it a little further with safe overclocking!

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely be looking to try some safe overclocking soon.

The 'OC' in your card's name indicates that it comes factory overclocked. According to a review from Gamer's Nexus, the clock speed for this model can reach between 2790 and 2842 MHz, which explains your results! You're not alone in being impressed; it sounds like Zotac has overdelivered on this one!

Thanks for the info! I appreciate the clarification. I guess I lucked out, but I still have a question about the VRAM clock speed. It’s showing 15000 MHz—should it actually be that high? I thought it was supposed to be around 1875 MHz.

Good to know! I had read that it comes with a factory OC, but I was surprised by how much above the spec it is. Sounds like Zotac was being generous!

I’m running mine at 3.1 GHz comfortably with some insane memory overclocks—+1.5 GHz is common, and I've seen people stabilize around 2 GHz. For 1440p gaming, a crazy overclock isn't really necessary, so considering undervolting may be a smart move.

I’m also on 1440p Ultrawide and thought about overclocking, but it seems fine as is. I’ll likely tweak it a bit at some point since all those videos show it’s an easy way to get some free performance!
