Why is the Camera Permission in Windows Settings Hidden for Intune Devices?

I'm running into an odd issue with our Intune and Autopilot managed Windows devices. When a new user logs in and tries to launch Teams or the camera app, they see the Windows prompt asking if the app can access the camera. If they click 'yes', it works fine. However, if they accidentally hit 'no', the camera access is turned off, and they can't access the camera permission settings in Windows because that option is hidden. If you search for 'camera' in settings, it shows results, but clicking on it doesn't lead anywhere. I've reached out to Microsoft support a couple of times, but they haven't been able to help. We don't have any policies in Intune that specifically block camera access; it seems like something is preventing the camera app permission from appearing in the Windows settings. I found a lot of suggestions about disabling camera access entirely, but that's not the issue here. If anyone has insights or ideas, I'd greatly appreciate it!

It sounds like the settings for your camera might be controlled by a Privacy CSP or a Settings Catalog policy in Intune. There are a couple of settings worth checking: 1) Make sure 'Let Windows apps access the camera' is enabled, and 2) Look into 'Hide specific Settings pages'. If the camera settings page is hidden via the `Settings/PageVisibilityList`, users won't be able to access those permissions after they deny them. You can also check the 'AllowCamera' flag under Device Restrictions / Privacy settings. A quick way to test this is to log in to a device without the main configuration profiles assigned to see if the camera settings page shows up normally. If it does, then this behavior is definitely linked to your Intune policies, and you might want to export the configuration profiles as JSON to look for anything related to 'camera' or 'pagevisibility'.

That definitely sounds like the issue! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Just to add on, the intent here seems to be that users should have control over their camera permissions, right? If the camera itself is allowed, hiding the settings might lead to this frustrating experience. Going through your Intune policies carefully and adjusting the visibility settings could solve this issue. It's worth making the camera settings accessible to avoid this kind of confusion in the future. Good luck!
