Why isn’t my Ethernet working on Windows 11?

I've been having trouble with my Windows 11 desktop not recognizing the Ethernet connection. It's strange because the Wi-Fi works just fine. I've tried a bunch of things, including restarting my computer, unplugging and replugging the Ethernet cable, turning off Tailscale, and checking the Realtek Family Controller driver, which is up to date. I even rolled back the driver and updated it again, but that didn't help either. I've tried different cables and confirmed the cable works on my laptop. The laptop gets good speeds on Wi-Fi, but my desktop is really slow – around 6 megabits per second compared to 57 on the laptop. Is this a hardware issue or is there something else I could try?

Have you checked what IP address your desktop is pulling? If it's pulling none, that’s a sign something’s wrong with the Ethernet connection, like configuration issues or even a faulty port.

Yeah, it’s showing none in ipconfig. Windows 11 says there’s no internet access.

It sounds like a weird one! Sometimes software can mess with your network settings, and it could be that something disabled IPv4 and IPv6 on your Ethernet adapter by accident. Check your adapter settings and see if those are still enabled.

Awesome! Good to hear you figured it out!
