I recently received an old Asus N61Jv laptop from my cousin for a clean install of Windows and some optimization. My cousin mentioned it was working fine when she sent it over, but now the screen just won't display anything. The backlight comes on, I hear sound, and it connects properly to an HDMI monitor, but the screen remains blank. I'm puzzled about what could have gone wrong.

Glad to hear you managed to fix it! Reconnecting the cable can solve a lot of mysteries with old laptops. Yeah, it's an old machine, but with a bit of RAM and SSD upgrade, you could squeeze some life out of it. What OS are you thinking of installing now?
Definitely check the cables first! It's common for them to get loose. But if everything looks fine and it's still not working, it might just be time to think about a new screen. Just so you know, this laptop is from 2010, so keep the cost of repairs in mind!
It looks like the screen might be stuck in this state. Have you checked for any cracks? Sometimes a seemingly fine screen can actually be damaged internally. But if there are no visible issues, it could just be a cable problem. Try disconnecting and reconnecting the cable that connects the screen to the motherboard. It's possible that it got a bit loose during transport. If that doesn't work, chances are you'll need to replace the screen, which could cost more than the laptop is worth given that it's quite old.
