Why isn’t my Mac charging anymore?

Hey everyone! I'm facing some issues with my laptop's charging port. Lately, I've noticed that my charger tends to get really hot while it's plugged in. Upon inspection, I found that the pins on the charger are actually burnt, and there are brown marks on the laptop's charging port too. Now, my laptop won't charge at all. I'm trying to figure out if the charger is the problem, or if the charging port on the laptop caused the damage. Since a new charger can be quite pricey, I'd like to get some advice before making a purchase. Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Do you think the charger might have failed and damaged the port, or could it be that the port itself is faulty and caused the overheating? Thanks for any insights!

Do you have access to a multimeter? It might help you check whether the charger is still functioning properly or if it’s the laptop port that's the issue. By the way, what model of Mac and charger are you using? It's been a while since I worked with Apple hardware.

My Mac is a 2015 MacBook Air that I bought reconditioned last year, and I'm using a MagSafe 2 charger. Unfortunately, I don’t have a multimeter to test it.
