I've just installed a new fiber optic internet connection at home in Germany, and I'm really excited to see how much faster it is. However, when I tried downloading some games on Steam, I noticed that my speeds haven't changed at all. I know Steam can limit internet usage, but I expected to see some improvement. My router is new and working properly, and my PC is relatively new as well. I'm using a Fritz! Powerline 510e to connect to the router through electrical outlets. While it claims to support speeds up to 500MB, my speed test only shows around 7 MB. I'm puzzled and looking for common issues—any insights?

Powerline adapters can be really unreliable. They often don't reach the advertised speeds, and I've found that using Wi-Fi or an Ethernet cable directly from the router usually yields much better results. I'd suggest trying that first.
Just a note: having fiber broadband doesn't guarantee faster speeds if your contract doesn't specify higher speeds than what you had before. If you're on the same plan, the speed might be similar. But if you're aiming for higher performance, definitely check those Powerline adapters.
If you're only getting around 7 MB/s, it could definitely indicate a bottleneck with your Powerline setup. I recommend connecting your PC directly to the router with an Ethernet cable. That way, you can see the actual speeds you're capable of getting without interference.
