Why isn’t my new SSD showing up in Windows?

I have an HP Spectre x360 16 and just installed a new Kioxia Exceria NVMe 1TB M.2 SSD. While I can see it in the BIOS under Configuration and Intel Rapid Storage Technology, it's not showing up anywhere else. I can't format it or create partitions since it's completely empty. I've spent the last couple of hours trying to figure this out, and nothing I've found online seems to help. Any ideas?

Just a heads-up, I ran into a similar problem. I initially downloaded the wrong Intel drivers, but after a retry, everything worked fine. Sometimes it's just about getting the right files.

You need to create an empty GPT partition table and a new primary partition before you can format the SSD with a file system like NTFS. Since it's a new drive, it's completely blank, so just setting it up in Disk Management should do the trick.

Have you checked if you can disable the VMD controller under IRST in the BIOS? It's a common issue, and sometimes switching the storage mode to AHCI can help. If those options aren't available, we can look into some more unconventional fixes.

If you can't find a way to switch to AHCI, consider disabling Secure Boot and making sure the Boot Mode is set to UEFI. That's usually a good step.

Yeah, I can relate to your frustration. I had to dig through some BIOS menus myself to get mine working right.
