Why Isn’t My PC Going to Sleep on Windows 11?

I'm having trouble getting my Windows 11 PC to sleep. Whenever I select the sleep option in the power settings, nothing happens. The screen goes black for a moment, but the PC remains on. If I move the mouse, the screen pops back up like nothing changed. I've already disabled the option to allow devices to wake the computer in the Device Manager for my mouse, keyboard, and network. Any advice on how to fix this?

I encountered something similar with my Lenovo laptop. No matter what sleep settings I tried, it wouldn’t work until I checked my power plan. Lenovo has its own power plan that can override the settings you choose. Switching it to 'custom' and setting it how I wanted finally resolved the sleep issue.

Honestly, I've given up on sleep because of these bugs. Instead, I just use hibernate mode, which seems to work better on my setup. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done.

Don’t forget to check your BIOS settings! There are options for sleep states like S3 or S4. Make sure your device is set to one of those and not the earlier S1/S2, or else it might not enter sleep mode properly.

You might want to check if anything is plugged into your USB ports. I had a similar problem where one of my front USB ports was causing my PC not to sleep at all. Unplugging the device fixed it for me.
