Why won’t my new SSD fit properly in my laptop?

I recently bought an SSD to expand my laptop's storage, but it doesn't fit properly. The SSD is shorter than what I expected, and while there's a screw hole in the middle, I don't have a spacer to secure it in place. Can anyone offer advice on what to do?

It sounds like your laptop's SSD slot may only accommodate a specific length. There are typically three sizes for M.2 SSDs, and if your laptop supports a 2280 size, but you have a smaller SSD, you might need an adapter bracket. Check the length of your SSD and look for a suitable extender on Amazon or a tech site. You can find a guide for the different M.2 sizes [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace/comments/17m3xvk/5_type_of_m2_ssd_size/).

Thanks for the info! I checked, and mine is a 2242. It has a hole for the screw but no spacer, and the one for the 2280 isn’t coming out. Any other suggestions?

If you want to securely mount your shorter SSD, getting a simple M.2 adapter or spacer is usually the best fix. These can help fill the gap in the slot so you can use the screw without an issue. You can often find them at electronics stores or online. Also, posting an image of your setup might help others provide more targeted advice!
