Why won’t my PC boot from the USB drive?

I'm having trouble getting my PC to boot from a USB drive. When I try to set it to boot from USB in the BIOS, it defaults to the M.2 drive and stays on the loading screen indefinitely (I've let it go for over 2 hours). The only way I can get it to recognize the USB is by removing it and reinserting it while the system is running, but it still only acknowledges the M.2 drive upon reboot. The M.2 is detected in BIOS, but it just won't boot from the USB. Does anyone have any suggestions for fixing this issue or getting my files to work?

It sounds like your USB drive might not be configured properly. What exactly are you trying to boot from it? Are you looking to reinstall Windows or just load a program? If you're installing Windows, it's crucial that the USB is made bootable correctly with the right files. Maybe check a guide on how to prepare the USB stick for installation.

First off, try turning off UEFI in your BIOS settings. Sometimes that helps with booting from USB drives. Also, check the format of the USB. Make sure it's set up correctly. If you’re trying to install Windows, ensure the USB is formatted to FAT32 or NTFS as needed.

Did you make sure the USB is in the correct format? I hope you formatted it right for your system. If you've used GPT to format it, that could be a good start, but sometimes further adjustments are needed depending on if your BIOS is UEFI or legacy.
